I went to one of the oldest harbour villages/towns in Holland with my father today. Felt like snapping pictures for some days now. Just snapping, nothing artistic, nothing conceptual, no ‘photography’, just snapping, like the old days. So don’t expect something special, but for me it is i guess.

i had a nice time. hope you’re all having it too.

see you,

Gerard

edit: i’m updating the images, seems like the screens of our ‘photography’ academy are very nicely calibrated.

Hello people,

well.. i haven’t photographed a lot lately. yesterday i was downloading some photos from my cf card and noticed when making a new folder that i didn’t have a july folder. so.. no photos for a month and a half. no digital at least.

this entry contains photos from my trip to rome with my parents, sister, brother and nice lady (© bernhard) back in july. all are shot with the leica m6 and 35/2 (which i’m both definately going to sell now) and on superia 200. the developer did a horrible job developing, i did a horrible job photographing, all even. i shot 4 rolls and only 10 photos came out okay-ish. shot 3 b/w films as well but since i need to develop those myself it will probably take another couple of weeks before i find motivation

Hugo, near the saint peters basilica.

subway. guys on the tv seem the only ones interested in the camera.

sister in the hotel lobby.

we’re not tourists, we are looking for real ancient stuf….

…while the others waited

wasn’t able to get the tones right in this one.

hugo again

nice very lady!

bonny & clyde.

i guess, if i have a favourite photo from my trip to rome it would be this one.

two pointing fingers =O

“rrrrrrriight”

so thats it for the color film. more digital and b/w crap in a couple of days. in the words of mjk; be safe, peace, out.

photo´s from the firing range, more to come later:

here is a weblog entry with mostly random leica photo’s. for some strange reason i hitnk the frontfocussing problem is over. i thought at first that perhaps it was a user fault, but i did multiple focus test and they were all frontfocussed. however it seems to be over now. too bad a new problem occured. the shutter is acting very strange.

anyway. here they are (ps i know there are some color strange color tones, i didn’t bother rectifying them again in photoshop since my class starts in 7 minnutes:

Thomas:

haha, i like this shot, makes me laugh.

its me =O

i might post more today. did a series at a shootingrange yesterday and i still have a little bit of stuff from queensday to show. gotta get to my class now. laters!

Hello. new weblog entry. enjoy.

First, commercial photography, had to make a billboard for public transport in the hague

should’ve cleaned the cabin. whatever. testing the lightning here. thanks to bekkie for modelling ^^;

final result, the text says ‘HTM, we wíll show up:

Next day, a shot made for fun.

85/1.2L, during a trainride. nothing special, just testing the lens, which is nice.

On friday, Rebecca, a classmate and I went to FOAM (photomuseum Amsterdam) where Nachtwey opened his exposition called ‘Testimony’. He’s without a doubt my favourite and most inspiring photographer, so i had a short chat with him. I wanted to buy his book ‘Inferno’ over there, but it was sold out after one hour (150 € =O). So i bought the museum magazine and gave him that:

(6 mb, FF 12 MP, click to see the original size so you can read the artical should you wish to)

here are some shots;

1/50th, exact same time as someone flashed. nice very =O

yes i know. i need a flash, this is a short blog and fashion photography is stupid. shut up okay bye.

things around here are good. busy, but good. i’ll start off with some shots of my nice ladddaaayy. hello beccs =O

12 mm. WEEEEEEEE

here are some photos of a syrian demonstration:

here is a photo i had to shot for reportage photography. a totally different approach for my doing. i really like how it came out:

now here is a very boring demonstration, and an even more boring photograph. whatever

the vest says ‘dutch troops out of afghanistan’

the day after we found ourselves in a bigger demonstration. the new government in holland has planned to retest disabled people, so that no money is given to people that actually are able to work.

guess what. 12 mm

WEEEEEEEEEEEE

okay

the banner in the back says ‘rejected’.

itchy itchy mister officer?

reading the terms and petition.

i like his horns.

it was a bitch to expose these shots correctly. lots of contrast. this one was overexposed a lot. this was all i could make of it, i think the moment is okay.

color!

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

long time no update :O here is some random stuff from school and a meeting in nijmegen with Thomas and Suzan.

Guus meditating, 50/1.4

img_9317.jpg

i dunno. the lens? its just exhibiting too much CA for me. perhaps it was the perticular copy i used. have a look at the next one, mind the chromatic aberrations on the hasselblad logo.

img_9321.jpg

anyway. thats that. no masterpieces or whatsoever. here are the photos from last thursday. i met thomas at the trainstation on roosendaal, where we went to nijmegen. had to pay his ticked because he spent all his money on lego and all. you still owe me money fucker!

img_9521.jpg

trying to hide from your depths are we?

img_9522.jpg

‘haha who? me?’

img_9534.jpg

jawohl, you.

so far for the proof of my incredibe sense of humor.

allright, one last photo in the train:

Thomas and his music =O i like the drooling couple in the back.

next shots are by Suzan:

img_9616.jpg

skin tones look horribly editted on this one i know. couldn’t get them right (emo)  shooting in this light is not easy with color.

thats it. no scanner available, so i guess the demo shots have to wait. they weren’t all that great anyway.

later!

first a roll of neopan 400. got i from a schoolmate after running out of film at the open day. development didn’t went well. some weird stuff went on, but i like the mid-tones of the film nonetheless.

M8!!

m8.jpg

my classmates and some teachers going through portfolio’s of people who want to get on the academy.

netta.jpg

portfolios.jpg

dunno why i’m putting up this shot. florian peaking around the corner is fun though.

florian.jpg

near the entrance. teachers in discussion.

trap.jpg

scan from print this time. Olympus OM1

scan3.jpg

thats it. the rest wasn’t properly developed or not interesting. oh yeah, there’s one more shot i’d like to show. does anybody know what happened here? i’m sure its not a double exposure, and the light curved line is a fold in the film. but whats up with all the wirly wavy things? did i do something wrong with turning the tank while developing or something?

casper.jpg

so far the neopan 400. i took my time to develop a roll of tri-x+1 too. its from last christmas holiday.

you probably know this one already. its already uploaded on deviantart. scan from print. i’m quite happy with this one actually.

98_by_gsu.jpg

and now a set of photos from a fellow photographer. just as mentally retarded as i am.

very boring lightning. i know

thomas1.jpg

untitled-12.jpg

i like this one, printed it already, its a scan from print actually, but the scanner wasn’t big enough to catch all the bordersides, so i dicided to cut the printborders off.

thomas2.jpg

thomas3.jpg

some weird scanner shit going on here. check out the ‘wood’ pattern. teacher told me it was something with air between the negatives and the scanner surface. got it almost away after a couple of tries. but i was in a rush so..

thomas4.jpg

dunno what to think of this one. i wish i would’ve taken it from a bigger distance.

buggy.jpg

and… last but not least. or well, least too i guess. focus tests!! hurray for front focussing:

focustest.jpg

focustest2.jpg

thats it. later people!

cheers.

i’m not sure wether the scanner at the academy is fucked or if my development technique isn’t good. perhaps both fact is that the scans aren’t looking like i want them to. what i do know is that my leica is frontfocussing, or perhaps the lens. which screwed up my day.

anyway. i had an open day at the academy last saturday, instead of bringing the digital tank i brought some film and the m6. negs scanned today.

oh yeah, i tried a new cleaning technique on my negative someone advised me. the negatives (scans) look like S H I T. thank you! bare with me please.  its tri-x exposed normally btw.  6 minutes HC 110-B

some guys from spain. i dunno, they kept photographing and filming eachother. maybe it was their honeymoon or something.

untitled-8.jpg

geeking in the studio before the visiters arive.

untitled-11.jpg

visiters going through our dummies. i focussed on the woman, not on the dude photographing. nice frontfocus very!

untitled-10.jpg

untitled-9.jpg

hurray for dirty negatives. playing poker at an exhibition. right =O

untitled-3.jpg

i like this shot, but frontfocussed. aarghh i’m pissed.

untitled-5.jpg

same girl.

untitled-13.jpg

making shadows with a beamer, always fun :)

untitled-1.jpg

untitled-2.jpg

untitled-6.jpg

untitled-7.jpg

untitled-12.jpg

last one. VR baby. the wall in the back has a projection of what the dude is seeing. guess a smaller apature would’ve helpt. but not much light available.

untitled-14.jpg

more scans later this week probably. a roll of neopan 400 is waiting.

later!

today i finished all the photography assignments of the last half year. this was the last one for documentairy photography. the assignment was 3 documentairy portraits with 3 different kind of approaches. i made those 3 portraits, and thus assignment is completed. but those are not the majority of photo’s you’ll see in this post. the post contains the photos i liked mostly.

i still don’t know what to think of it though. perhaps i’ll have to look at it again in a couple of weeks.

img_8515.jpg

img_8516.jpg

img_8531.jpg

img_8534.jpg

rock around the clock ;)

img_8548.jpg

i know this is pretty much the same as the other photo. but i liked the camera on the tv-screen.

img_8555.jpg

i hate flash. i can handle them in the studio, but i still have to practise with them in photojournalism. taken with a metz 45 ct-1. anyway. this shot. i like how he and his mother are on it :)

img_8559.jpg

img_8578.jpg

img_8580.jpg
